Welcome to the Raven’s Roots Naturalist School!  We offer both short and long term courses designed to share naturalist skills and foster connection with community and the environment. Our subject areas include ethnobotany, wild-foraging, herbalism, permaculture, wild-crafting, homesteading techniques, wildlife track & sign, bird language & behavior, wilderness survival, and primitive skills. Come join us! Take a look at our upcoming programs and courses to learn more.

Join one of our 9-10 month immersion programs. These courses meet one weekend per month to build in-depth skill sets.  Our next Spring Ethnobotany and Naturalist Immersion courses begin in the spring of 2025.

Short courses range in duration from 1 to 5 days. Current short course offerings include short term survival workshops, fire making, and bird language & behavior. Other courses that will be offered shortly are bow making, home-scale permaculture, plant based medicine, mushroom identification, and wild foraging. If you don't have time to take a full day class, join us for one of our 3 hour naturalist walks where we'll cover everything from plants, birds, mushroooms, tracks and more.

In addition to the school, we also operate a permaculture plant nursery and medicinal herb farm on our campus. The plant nursery is called 7 Layers Nursery (www.7layersnursery.com) and we specialize in perennial medicinal and edible plants. The herb farm is called Wayside Botanicals (www.waysidebotanicals.com) and we sell both fresh and dried medicinal herbs and herbal medicines that we cultivate and wild harvest ourselves.

We believe these skills are essential to building resilient communities capable of providing for their own needs; and that engaging in these activities creates a deeper connection to the natural world, encouraging stewardship of the resources it provides.

We would love to hear from you, whether you are interested in taking a class or attending one of our summer potlucks.
