Plant Walk at Mt. Baker - Heather Meadows

Instructor: Gabe Garms
Cost: $25

Come join us on a 3 hour plant walk starting at the main parking lot of the Bagley Lake trailhead.  We'll help you identify all of the mountain trees, plants, ferns and shrubs along the trail system We’ll also teach you which plants are good for food, medicine, tools and attracting wildlife. We'll also look at the relationships that the plants have with the birds, invertebrates and other elements of the natural world.

The blueberries should be starting to get plentiful at this time of year so bring along a bucket to harvest. We’ll learn about a myriad of mountain plants such as elephant’s head lousewort, parnassia, sitka valerian, pasqueflower, arnica and many more. This is one of the prettiest walks in the state and is even prettier when you know what all of the plants are. We’ll walk the loop at Bagley Lake and if we have time, we’ll head 1 mile up the road to the Fire and Ice Trail where we’ll study a slightly different ecology. I take my students on this walk for my immersion class and almost all of them come back to this spot often.

We’ll meet at the Bagley Lake parking lot at 10am.
