Join our Ethnobotany group for a day of weaving baskets!
Instructor Reisha Beck will guide participants in two types of baskets, giving folks the skills and confidence to begin their weaving journey.
Saturday folks will learn the oldest form of basketry, twinning, with cattails and tule. Reisha will cover harvesting, processing and ethnological traditions form around the world. Everyone will finish a beautiful and functional round base cattail basket!
Sunday participants will learn the coiling method, using pine needles and waxed linen thread. Harvesting processing and ethnobotanical traditions will be covered as well. Different stitching patterns and materials will be demonstrated, and folks have the option to make a round or oval shaped basket.
